UK has been a contributor to the Elton John AIDS Foundation for eight years, and for the 2011 White Tie and Tiara Ball, the company didn’t disappoint, offering a chrome Audi R8 Spyder for auction.
But when that car grabbed £250,000 at the hammer, the company stepped up and threw a second chrome A8 Spyder into the ring, which subsequently sold for a similar amount--and it was then redonated and resold.
By the time the bidding frenzy was over, a total of £620,000 had been raised from both cars for the event. That’s just less than $1 million for those keeping score at home.
Who said charitable donations were down in this struggling economy?
